Diagnostic Test

  1. DTC IS ACTIVE 
    NOTE:

    If there are any DEF Supply Pump or DEF Heater DTCs present, perform the Diagnostics for those DTCs before continuing with this one.

    Ignition on, engine not running.

    1. With the scan tool, erase DTCs in the PCM.
    2. It may be necessary to cold-soak the vehicle outdoors for an extended period to re-produce the failure cycle for this DTC.
    3. Start the engine and allow the engine to reach normal operating temperature.
    4. Monitor the scan tool for at least two minutes.
    5. With the scan tool, select View DTCs.

      Is the status Active for this DTC?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

      • Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT DTC .
  2. CHECK THE DEF INLET (TANK) LINE FOR LEAKS 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Visually inspect the DEF Inlet (Tank) Line for leaks.

      Are there any leaks present?

      Yes 

      • Repair the DEF Inlet (Tank) Line that for leaking. Then, begin this Diagnostics again starting with the 'DTC IS ACTIVE' Test Step.
      • Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  3
  3. DEF INLET (TANK) LINE 
    1. Replace the DEF Inlet (Tank) Line in accordance with the service information.
    2. Ignition on, engine not running.
    3. With the scan tool, erase DTCs in the PCM.
    4. It may be necessary to cold-soak the vehicle outdoors for an extended period to re-produce the failure cycle for this DTC.
    5. Start the engine.
    6. Allow the engine to reach normal operating temperature.
    7. Monitor the scan tool for at least two minutes.
    8. With the scan tool, select View DTCs.

      Is the status Active for this DTC?

      Yes 

      • Go To  4

      No 

  4. POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE 
    1. Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the DEF Pump_Level/Temp Sensor, the DEF Inlet (Tank) Heater and the Powertrain Control Module.
    2. Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
    3. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals.
    4. Perform any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply.

      Were any problems found?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Replace the Powertrain Control Module in accordance with the service information. Refer to REMOVAL .
      • Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
