Diagnostic Test

- DTC IS ACTIVE
- Ignition on, engine not running.
- With the scan tool, select View DTCs.
Is the status Active for this DTC?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT DTC .
- CHECK THE (K384) EXHAUST TEMPERATURE SENSOR 1 SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 1/1 harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Measure the voltage of the (K384) Exhaust Temperature Sensor 1 Signal circuit at the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 1/1 harness connector.
Does the voltage measure above 5.2 Volts?
Yes
- Repair the (K384) Exhaust Temperature Sensor 1 Signal circuit for a short to voltage.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 3
- CHECK THE (K384) EXHAUST TEMPERATURE SENSOR 1 SIGNAL FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
- Measure the resistance of the (K384) Exhaust Temperature Sensor 1 Signal circuit between the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 1/1 harness connector and the PCM C1 harness connector.
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Repair the (K384) Exhaust Temperature Sensor 1 Signal circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE (K385) SENSOR RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
- Measure the resistance of the (K385) Sensor Return circuit between the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 1/1 harness connector and the PCM C1 harness connector.
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 5
No
- Repair the (K385) Sensor Return circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
- Measure the resistance of the (K385) Sensor Return circuit between the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 1/1 harness connector and the PCM C1 harness connector.
- EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE SENSOR 1/1
- Turn the ignition off.
- Reconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
- Connect a jumper wire between the (K384) Exhaust Temperature Sensor 1 Signal circuit and the (K385) Sensor Return circuit at the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 1/1 harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, select View DTCs.NOTE:
The scan tool should display an Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 1/1 Low DTC as active with the jumper wire in place.
Does the scan tool display the DTC as described above?
Yes
- Replace the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 1/1.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 6
- POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE
- Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor 1/1 and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
- Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
- Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals.
- Perform any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Replace the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in accordance with the service information. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
