Fuel System Pressure Release

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2011 RAM Pickup and 2011 RAM Cab & Chassis. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Use this procedure whether or not the fuel rail is equipped with a fuel pressure test port.

A separate fuel pump relay is no longer used. A circuit within the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) is used to control the electric fuel pump located within the fuel pump module. The TIPM (2) is located in the engine compartment in front of the battery.

  1. Remove the fuel fill cap.
  2. Remove the TIPM cover (1) from the TIPM housing base (2).

    CAUTION:

Before separating a Quick-Connect fitting, pay attention to what type of fitting is being used. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - QUICK-CONNECT FITTINGS . This will prevent unnecessary fitting or fitting latch breakage.

    NOTE:

Excessive fuel spillage onto the gaskets can cause gaskets to expand and dislodge from gasket groove.

  7. Place a rag or towel below the fuel line quick-connect fitting at the fuel rail.
  8. Disconnect the fuel line quick-connect fitting at the fuel rail (1) and plug with a shipping cap to prevent spillage. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - QUICK-CONNECT FITTINGS .
NOTE:

One or more Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's) may have been stored in the PCM memory due to disconnecting fuel pump module circuit. A diagnostic scan tool must be used to erase a DTC.
