Diagnostic Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2013 Dodge Avenger and 2013 Chrysler 200. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. RECORD AND ERASE ALL DTCs
    1. With the scan tool, run a vehicle scan report (TSB 08-017-06) to record all DTCs from all modules. The vehicle scan report may be used later as an aid in diagnosing the intermittent condition.
    2. Erase all DTCs from all modules.

Did any DTCs reappear and stay active?

      Yes

      No

      • Go To Step  2
  2. ATTEMPT TO REPRODUCE THE CONDITION
    1. Monitor for and repair any active codes that appear as you work through the following steps:
      • Check for any Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) that may apply.
      • Review the "When Monitored and "Set Conditions" for any DTCs that were stored and attempt to reproduce the conditions listed.
      • Wiggle the wiring harness and connectors of the related circuit, sensor or component.

Was the source of the intermittent condition found?

      Yes

      • Make the appropriate repairs.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .

      No

      • Go To Step  3
  3. SYMPTOM BASED DIAGNOSTICS
    1. The chart below may aid in the diagnosing of symptoms that appear but do not always set a diagnostic trouble code.
      SYMPTOM POSSIBLE CAUSES SOLUTION
HEADER LATCH HOOKS FAIL ON A 45 DEGREE ANGLE.
Possible DTC's B253A, B253B, B253D may be present. Roof may be trapped at the header or may travel to the trunk before roof operation times out.
      1) Binding gears in header latch motor. 1) Attempt to operate header latch manually with StarScan. If no movement or clicking sound is present - REPLACE HEADER LATCH MOTOR. Verify PTCM software is at the latest level.
HYDRAULIC PUMP RUNNING WITH "NO" ROOF MOVEMENT.  Possible DTC's B255D, B2545, B2546 may be present. Roof system will be in the fully open or fully closed state. 1) Low hydraulic fluid level in pump reservoir. 1) Inspect hydraulic system for any leaks and repair as needed. Correct fluid level in reservoir, cycle roof and reinspect.
      2) If any one of these DTCs are active, and the Motor/Pump is operating with limited or no Power Top movement, the most likely cause is a malfunctioning Motor/Pump or Power Top cables.
HYDRAULIC PUMP RUNNING WITH "LIMITED" ROOF MOVEMENT.  Possible DTC B18D1 may be present. Roof system may open Approx. 6-12 inches off header and stop. Pump runs and times out. 1) Side rail S-links are bent (see appropriate TSB for repair). Binding is due to bent components (s-link, seal retainers, rear panel seal flange). 2) Cargo divider has separated and/or divider switch is faulty. Roof can contact divider when in the vertical position and the switch is active. 1) Perform S-link repair (see appropriate TSB for repair) and replace damaged parts as needed.
      2) Replace cargo divider and/or switch as needed. Inspect roof mechanism for binding condition.
      3) If this DTC is active, and the Motor/Pump is operating with limited or no Power Top movement, the most likely cause is a malfunctioning Motor/Pump or Power Top cables.
    2. Was the source of the symptom based condition found?

      Yes

      • Make the appropriate repairs.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .

      No

      • The condition is not present at this time. Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring for chafed, pierced, pinched, and partially broken wires and the wiring harness connectors for broken, bent, pushed out, and corroded terminals.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
