Diagnostic Test
- DETERMINE ACTIVE OR STORED DTC NOTE:
Make sure that the battery is fully charged.
NOTE:The scan tool, SRS Load Tool Kit (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool), and DVOM are required to perform the following test.
- Turn the ignition on.
Select ACTIVE or STORED DTC:
ACTIVE DTC
- Go To 2
STORED DTC
- Perform the AIRBAG SYSTEM INTERMITTENT TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Turn the ignition on.
- CHECK FOR SHORTED PASSENGER SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER
WARNING:
Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Disconnect the Passenger Seat Belt Pretensioner connector.NOTE:
Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
- Connect the SRS Load Tool Kit (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool) and SRS Load Tool Jumper (special tool #8443-8, Jumper, SRS Load) to the Passenger Seat Belt Pretensioner connector.WARNING:
Turn the ignition on then reconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- With the scan tool, read the active ORC DTCs.
Does the scan tool display: B1B2F-1st ROW PASSENGER SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER CIRCUIT SHORTED TOGETHER?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Replace the Passenger Seat Belt Pretensioner in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the AIRBAG SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Disconnect the Passenger Seat Belt Pretensioner connector.
- CHECK (R56) PASSENGER SEAT BELT TENSIONER LINE 1 CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO THE (R54) PASSENGER SEAT BELT TENSIONER LINE 2 CIRCUIT Fig 2: Checking Passenger Seat Belt Tensioner Line 1 Circuit For A Short To Passenger Seat Belt Tensioner Line 2 Circuit

- Disconnect the SRS Load Tool Kit (special tool #8443A, SRS Load Tool) and Jumper from the Passenger Seat Belt Pretensioner connector.
- Disconnect the ORC connectors.NOTE:
Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.
- Connect the SRS Load Tool Adaptor (special tool #8443-25, 56 Way ACM Adapter) to the ORC C2 connector.
- Measure the resistance between the (R56) Passenger Seat Belt Tensioner Line 1 circuit cavity 32-13 and the (R54) Passenger Seat Belt Tensioner Line 2 circuit cavity 32-14 at the SRS Load Tool Adaptor (special tool #8443-25, 56 Way ACM Adapter).
Is the resistance below 10k Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (R56) Passenger Seat Belt Tensioner Line 1 circuit for a short to the (R54) Passenger Seat Belt Tensioner Line 2 circuit.
- Perform the AIRBAG SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
WARNING:Turn the ignition off disconnect the 12-volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
WARNING:If the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is dropped at any time, it must be replaced. Failure to take the proper precautions can result in accidental airbag deployment. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Replace the ORC in accordance with Service Information.
- Perform the AIRBAG SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
