Diagnostic Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2013 RAM 3500 HD and 2013 RAM 2500 HD. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. CHECK FOR POOR CONNECTIONS AT THE BATTERIES
    NOTE:

It can take up to 10 minutes for the PCM to power down after the ignition is turned off. Disconnecting the Batteries during this time will cause this DTC to set.

    1. Visually inspect the wiring at the Batteries for damaged wires or corrosion.

Are the connections tight and free of corrosion?

      Yes

      • Go To  2

      No

      • Repair the poor connections at the Batteries.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST - 6.7L. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. CHECK FOR LOW BATTERY VOLTAGE - DEFECTIVE BATTERY
    1. Disconnect both Batteries.
      NOTE:

Keep the Batteries disconnected through the entire test procedure.

  4. CHECK THE (Z915) PCM GROUND CIRCUITS FOR CONTINUITY
    1. Measure the resistance between the negative Battery post and the five (Z915) PCM ground circuits at the PCM C2 harness connector.

Is the resistance less than 5.0 Ohms?

      Yes

      • Go To  5

      No

      • Repair the (Z915) PCM ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST - 6.7L. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  5. CHECK THE (A209) PCM FUSED B+ CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO OTHER CIRCUITS
    1. Measure the resistance between the five (A209) PCM Fused B+ circuits and all other circuits on both PCM harness connectors, except other (A209) PCM Fused B+ circuits.

Is the resistance greater than 10k Ohms?

      Yes

      • Go To  6

      No

      • Repair the (A209) PCM Fused B+ circuit for a short to the other circuit(s) that tested below 10k Ohms.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST - 6.7L. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  6. CHECK THE (Z915) PCM GROUND CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO OTHER CIRCUITS
    1. Measure the resistance between the five (Z915) PCM Ground circuits and all other circuits on both PCM harness connectors, except other (Z915) PCM Ground circuits.

Is the resistance greater than 10k Ohms?

      Yes

      • Go To  7

      No

      • Repair the (Z915) PCM Ground circuit for a short to the other circuit(s) that tested below 10k Ohms.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST - 6.7L. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  7. CHECK THE (A209) PCM FUSED B+ CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    1. Measure the resistance between ground and the (A209) PCM Fused B+ circuits at the PCM C2 harness connector.

Is the resistance greater than 10k Ohms?

      Yes

      • Go To  8

      No

      • Repair the (A209) PCM Fused B+ circuit for a short to ground.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST - 6.7L. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  8. REFLASH THE PCM
