Diagnostic Test

- ACTIVE DTC
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.NOTE:
If there are any other EGR DTCs present, perform the diagnostics on those DTCs before continuing with this diagnostic tree.
- With the scan tool, record all Freeze frame data.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off for 75 seconds.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did DTC P049D reset?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- CLEAN THE EGR VALVE NOTE:
Ensure that the PCM has the latest flash and the scan tool software is up to date.
- With the scan tool, monitor the EGR Valve Gap.
Is the EGR Valve Gap equal to 1?
Yes
- Replace the EGR Valve in accordance with the service information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST - 6.7L. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Remove and clean the EGR Valve in accordance with the EGR Valve Cleaning Procedure.
- Perform EGR Valve cleaning procedure. Refer to VALVE, EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION (EGR), 6.7L DIESEL [ETK], CLEANING .
- Go To 3
- With the scan tool, monitor the EGR Valve Gap.
- EGR VALVE
- After completing the EGR cleaning procedure, re-connect the EGR valve harness connector. But, do NOT re-install the EGR Valve.
- With the scan tool, monitor the EGR Valve Gap.
Is the EGR Valve Gap equal to 1?
Yes
- Re-install the EGR Valve. Repair is complete.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST - 6.7L. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Replace the EGR Valve in accordance with the service information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST - 6.7L. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
