Theory Of Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2013 RAM 2500 HD and 2012 RAM Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The AAT Sensor is located in the drivers side mirror housing. On a base vehicle the sensor is hard wired to the Body Control Module (BCM). If the vehicle is equipped with a Drivers Door Module (DDM), the sensor is hard wired to the DDM through the mirror harness connector. The AAT Sensor raw data is bussed from the DDM to the BCM. Ambient Air Temperature (AAT) Sensor performance looks at the outputs of three temperature sensors and compares them under cold start conditions. Following a start to run delay time, the outputs of the ambient, engine coolant and intake air temperature sensors are compared. The AAT Sensor is a variable resistor that functions as a typical two wire sensor.
