Primary Radiator

  1. Disconnect and isolate both negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the oil dip stick (3).
  3. Remove fasteners (1, 4) and the engine cover (2).
  4. If A/C equipped, recover A/C refrigerant. Refer to PLUMBING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .

  5. Remove fasteners (2) and the upper radiator shroud (1).
    WARNING:

    Do not remove the cylinder block drain plugs or loosen the radiator draincock with the system hot and under pressure. Serious burns from coolant can occur.

  6. Drain the cooling system. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  7. Remove air cleaner body and turbocharger inlet tube. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL, 5.7L GAS .
  8. Remove the viscous fan and fan shroud. Refer to FAN, COOLING, ELECTRIC, REMOVAL  and FAN, COOLING, VISCOUS, REMOVAL .

  9. Disconnect the fastener (2) securing A/C line (1).

  10. If equipped, remove nuts (4 and 6) and disconnect A/C condenser refrigerant lines and install caps or plugs to the opening.
  11. Remove fasteners (2 and 5) securing A/C manifold and line.

  12. Remove the coolant bottle hose (1) from radiator (2).

  13. Remove the upper radiator hoses (2) from primary radiator (1).

    NOTE:

    Left side shown in illustration, right side similar.

  14. Remove retainers (2) and the intermediate flexible shroud (1) from both sides of primary radiator.

  15. If equipped, disconnect the transmission cooler lines (1). Refer to TUBES AND HOSES, TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER, STANDARD PROCEDURE .

  16. Remove the lower radiator hoses (2) from primary radiator (1).

  17. Remove the left side primary radiator mounting bolt (1).

  18. Remove the right side primary radiator mounting bolt (2).
  19. Tilt the radiator towards the rear of the vehicle and lift the primary radiator (1) out of the engine compartment.

  20. If necessary, remove bolts (1) and the radiator shroud (2).
