Knuckle, Steering: Removal: Removal

- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
- Remove the ABS wheel speed sensor, disconnecting the electrical harness as necessary to remove knuckle. Refer to SENSOR, WHEEL SPEED, FRONT, REMOVAL .
- Remove the tie rod end nut from the ball stud.
- Separate the tie rod ball stud (1) from the knuckle with Ball Joint Remover (special tool #9360, Remover, Ball Joint) (2).
- Remove the halfshaft nut (4X4 only).
- Remove the upper ball joint nut. Separate the ball joint (4) from the knuckle (6) with Ball Joint Remover (special tool #9360, Remover, Ball Joint) (5)
1 - STEERING KNUCKLE 2 - SPECIAL TOOL 8677 CAUTION:When installing puller to separate the ball joint, be careful not to damage the ball joint seal.
- Support the outboard side of the lower control arm to support vehicle weight.
- Remove the lower ball joint nut. Separate the ball joint from the knuckle with Ball Joint Remover (special tool #8677, Remover, Ball Joint) (2).
- Remove the steering knuckle (1) from the vehicle.
- If required, remove the hub/bearing and dust shield from the knuckle (1).
- Remove the three hub/bearing mounting bolts from the steering knuckle (1).
- Slide the hub/bearing out of the steering knuckle (1).
- Remove the brake dust shield.
