Remove the steering knuckle. Refer to KNUCKLE, Steering , Removal .
Remove the axle shaft from the axle. Refer to appropriate DRIVELINE/AXLES article.

Remove lower snap ring from the lower ball joint.

Position Ball Joint Remover/Installer (special tool #8975-2, Cup, Remover) (RECEIVER) (2) and Ball Joint Remover/Installer (special tool #8975-4, Remover, Ball Joint) (DRIVER) (4) with Ball Joint Press (special tool #C-4212F, Press, Ball Joint) (1) as shown in illustration to remove lower ball stud.
