Heated Seat System
Vehicles equipped with the heated seat option utilize a low voltage cut-off feature. This feature turns off power to the heated seat system anytime vehicle voltage is below 11.7 volts or above 15.5 volts. Be certain to check the vehicle electrical system for proper voltage anytime the heated seat system appears inoperative.
If a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) can not be verified, it is a good indication that an intermittent fault condition may be present. To help find an intermittent problem, sit in the seat in question and move around the heating elements within the seat while testing continuity. Wiggle the heated seat wire harness and electrical connectors while testing continuity.
For complete circuit diagrams, see Wiring Information. Wiring Information includes wiring diagrams, connector pin-out and location views, details of wire harness routing and retention, splice and ground locations and proper wire and connector repair procedures.
REGARDING STOP START SYSTEM
- The heated seats and heated glass will continue to run during a Stop event, however during the period the vehicle restarts, heated seats will turn off temporarily to prevent a draw on voltage. The heated glass will turn off temporarily during restart as well, due to anti-pinch algorithm. The indicators will remain on to the customer during this event
Before testing any individual components in the heated seat system, check the following:
- Check to see if the concern is isolated to only one seat by performance checking all other available heated seats in this vehicle.
- Check the ignition fuse in the Power Distribution Center (PDC) and repair as necessary.
- Using a scan tool, check for any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) related to the Heated Seat Module (HSM), If any DTCs are found, repair as necessary. Refer to DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX .
- Check the vehicles battery open-circuit voltage and charging system performance. If the vehicle's electrical system is defective or weak it may not be suppling sufficient energy to operate the heated seat system.
- If there are no DTCs and the front heated seat system functions properly, but a heated seat switch indicator does not illuminate, the switch pod assembly in the instrument panel must be replaced. Refer to SWITCH, HEATED SEAT, REMOVAL .
- If there are no DTCs and the rear heated seat system functions properly, but one or both of the indicator lamps in a rear heated seat switch do not illuminate, check the rear heated switch circuits and repair as necessary. See Wiring information. If the wiring is OK, replace the inoperative second row heated seat switch. Refer to SWITCH, HEATED SEAT, REMOVAL .
Auto-On Inoperative
- If the Auto-On system is not functioning for the vehicle, check the following:
- Verify that this vehicle is equipped with this feature.
- Verify the vehicle is reading ambient temperatures at or below 4° C (40° F).
- Verify the heated seat system is operational.
- Verify the customer programmable feature is enabled in the radio.
- Using a scan tool, check for DTCs.
- Check for software updates on the U-Connect™ website.
