Diagnosis And Testing - Stand Alone Hood Ajar Switch
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 RAM 2500 HD. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Disconnect and isolate the negative cable from the battery.
- Disconnect the wire harness connector from the hood ajar switch.
- Check for continuity between the two terminals of the hood ajar switch. There should be continuity with the switch plunger extended, and only the continuity of the 1 kilohm diagnostic resistor with the switch plunger depressed. If OK, use a diagnostic scan tool and the appropriate diagnostic procedure to complete testing of the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) (also known as the Engine Control Module/ECM) as well as the circuits between the PCM and the hood ajar switch. If not OK, replace the ineffective hood ajar switch.
