Diagnostic Test

- VERIFY THE DTC IS ACTIVE
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read and record the DTCs.
- With the scan tool, read and record the Environmental Data to help identify the conditions in which the DTC was set.
- With the scan tool, erase the DTCs.
- Start the engine.
- Slowly press the brake pedal and release.
- With the scan tool, read and record the DTCs.
Is the DTC active at this time?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the ABS-INTERMITTENT CONDITION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- INSPECT THE BRAKE PEDAL POSITION (BPP) SENSOR FOR INCORRECT INSTALLATION, DAMAGE OR MECHANICAL FAILURE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Visually inspect the BPP Sensor for Improper installation, damage or mechanical failure. Refer to SENSOR, STOP LAMP, INSTALLATION
.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Go To 3
- CHECK THE (B137) BPP SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Disconnect the ABS Module harness connector.
- Disconnect the BPP Sensor harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Measure the voltage of the (B137) BPP Sensor Signal circuit in the BPP Sensor harness connector.
Is there any voltage present?
Yes
- Repair the (B137) BPP Sensor Signal circuit for a short to voltage.
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Go To 4
- CHECK THE (B937) BPP SENSOR RETURN CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Measure the voltage of the (B937) BPP Sensor Return circuit in the BPP Sensor harness connector.
Is there any voltage present?
Yes
- Repair the (B937) BPP Sensor Return circuit for a short to voltage.
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Go To 5
- Measure the voltage of the (B937) BPP Sensor Return circuit in the BPP Sensor harness connector.
- CHECK THE (B237) BPP SENSOR FEED CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO THE (B137) BPP SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT
- Check for continuity between the (B237) BPP Sensor Feed circuit and the (B137) BPP Sensor Signal circuit at the BPP Sensor harness connector.
Is there continuity between the (B237) BPP Sensor Feed circuit and the (B137) BPP Sensor Signal circuit?
Yes
- Repair the (B237) BPP Sensor Feed circuit and the (B137) BPP Sensor Signal circuit for a short.
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Go To 6
- Check for continuity between the (B237) BPP Sensor Feed circuit and the (B137) BPP Sensor Signal circuit at the BPP Sensor harness connector.
- BRAKE PEDAL POSITION (BPP) SENSOR
- Turn the ignition off.
- Connect the ABS Module harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Measure the voltage at the BPP Sensor harness connector between the (B237) BPP Sensor Feed and the (B937) BPP Sensor Return.
Is the voltage above 4.75 volts?
Yes
- Replace the Brake Pedal Position (BPP) Sensor in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to SENSOR, STOP LAMP, REMOVAL .
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Replace the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) Module in accordance with the service information. Refer to MODULE, ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS), REMOVAL .
- Perform the ABS VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
