Assembly, Diesel Exhaust Fluid Pump: Installation

  1. Clean the O-ring sealing surfaces.
  2. Install a NEW  O-ring seal (1) onto the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) tank.

  3. Install the DEF pump and level sensor (2) into tank.
  4. Using the (special tool #9340, SAE Fuel Pump Lock Ring Wrench) (1), install the lock ring (3) onto the DEF tank.

    CAUTION:

    DEF is highly corrosive. If the wire harness connector is exposed to DEF fluid during service replace the DEF tank wire harness.

  5. Untie the wire harness connector and connect the DEF pump wire harness connector (1).
  6. Connect DEF supply line (3) from the DEF pump.

  7. Install the DEF pump cover. Tighten bolts (1) to 14 N.m (10 ft. lbs.).
  8. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
  9. Fill the DEF tank with fresh clean DEF fluid.
  10. Connect both negative battery cables.
  11. Using the scan tool, verify that the DEF tank level is at least 50%.
  12. Using the scan tool, perform the DEF Reductant Doser Prime Override Test to its completion, do this two times  .
  13. Start the engine and test drive the vehicle for at least 15 minutes.
  14. After the test drive, use the scan tool and check for DTCs.
  15. If there are fault codes present, perform the Diagnostic for those DTCs.
  16. If there are no DTCs, the DEF pump is properly primed.
