- Check the bleed orifice to ensure that it is not plugged or restricted.
- Lubricate the seals with Mopar® ATF +4, Automatic Transmission Fluid, prior to installation.
- Install the L/R piston into the L/R clutch retainer.
- Position the low/reverse Belleville spring (3) on the L/R piston.
- Using Spring Compressor (special tool #8285, Compressor, Spring) (2) and a suitable shop press (1), compress the L/R Belleville spring (3) and install the split retaining ring to hold the Belleville spring into the L/R clutch retainer.

Install all the discs with the friction material facing up.
- Assemble and install the L/R clutch pack (4, 5) into the L/R clutch retainer (9).
- Install the L/R reaction plate (3) into the L/R clutch retainer (9). The reaction plate is directional and must be installed with the flat side down.
- Install the L/R clutch pack snap-ring (2). The snap-ring is selectable and should be chosen to give the correct clutch pack clearance.
- Set up (special tool #C-3339A, Set, Dial Indicator) (1) as shown with the tip of the dial indicator on the L/R reaction plate (2), gently push the reaction plate down and zero the dial indicator.
- Using a rubber tipped blow, apply air pressure regulated to 207 kPa (30 PSI) to the L/R clutch apply hole (3), record the dial indicator reading.
- Compare reading to, install a different thickness select snap ring as necessary to obtain specified L/R clutch pack clearance. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .NOTE:
When installing the Overrunning Clutch (ORC) be certain the notched end of the external spline teeth faces upward. The ORC is properly seated when the inner spline stepped face is below the face of the L/R clutch retainer hub.
- Install the ORC (1) into the L/R clutch retainer (9) making sure that the index splines are aligned with the retainer.NOTE:
When properly assembled, the ORC outer race will turn freely in a clockwise direction when installed in the L/R clutch assembly, and lock when trying to turn it counterclockwise.
