Manifold, Exhaust: Removal: Right

  1. Remove the engine cover.
  2. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  4. Remove the right front tire and wheel.
  5. Remove the right inner wheel splash shield. Refer to SHIELD, SPLASH, FRONT WHEELHOUSE, REMOVAL .
  6. Saturate the front exhaust pipe/catalytic converter retaining bolts and nuts with Mopar® Rust Penetrant or equivalent and allow 5 minutes for penetration.

  7. Remove the right exhaust pipe/catalytic converter assembly to exhaust manifold retaining bolts (1).

  8. Loosen the left engine mount through bolt (1).

  9. Loosen the right engine mount through bolt (1).
  10. Using a suitable jack stand, raise the engine.
    CAUTION:

    Do not damage engine harness while raising the engine.

  11. Disconnect the knock sensor wire harness connector.
  12. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield retaining nuts (1), and remove the shield.

  13. Using the sequence shown, remove the exhaust manifold retaining bolts/nuts.
    NOTE:

    The stud-bolts used to secure the exhaust manifold are at locations 5, 9, 7 and 8. NEW bolts must always be installed.

  14. Remove the exhaust manifold and gasket.
  15. Inspect the exhaust manifold for any damage. Refer to MANIFOLD, EXHAUST, INSPECTION  .
  16. Clean the mating surfaces.
