Cover(S), Engine Timing: Removal

  1. Disconnect and isolate both of the battery negative cables.
  2. Remove shroud assembly, viscous fan, and fan drive. Refer to FAN, COOLING, VISCOUS, REMOVAL .
  3. Remove the bolt (2) and the accessory drive belt tensioner (1).

  4. Raise and support the vehicle.
  5. Remove the three bolts (2) and position aside power steering pump (2).

  6. Remove the crankshaft damper. Refer to DAMPER, VIBRATION, REMOVAL, 6.7L .
  7. Remove support and lower the vehicle.

  8. Remove the bolts (1, 3) and the timing cover (2) by gently prying the cover away from the housing, taking care not to mar the gasket surfaces.

  9. Support the engine timing cover on a flat work surface, and using a suitable punch (1) and hammer, drive the old seal (2) out of the engine timing cover from the front side.
