Non-High Output Engine

NOTE:

The transmission adapter cover (2) is located on the right side of the converter housing.

  1. Remove the transmission adapter cover bolt (1) and loosen the other bolt (3). Rotate the cover (2) to gain access for the barring tool to be installed.
  2. Install the Barring Tool (special tool #7471B, Barring Tool) with breaker bar.

    NOTE:

    The damper must be installed so the hole is located over the dowel pin.

    NOTE:

    If the damper has not been replaced and is only being reinstalled, the barring adapter (2) must be reinstalled with NEW  bolts.

  3. Using NEW  bolts (1), install the vibration damper (3). While holding the breaker bar to prevent the engine from turning, tighten bolts (1) to 40 N.m (30 ft. lbs.) plus an additional 60° in a criss-cross pattern.
  4. Remove the Barring Tool (special tool #7471B, Barring Tool)

  5. Install the transmission adapter cover (2) and tighten the bolts (1, 3) to 10 N.m (89 in. lbs.).
  6. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to BELT, SERPENTINE, INSTALLATION .
