Diagnostic Test
- ACTIVE DTC
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool check active DTCs.NOTE:
Diagnose and repair any Battery voltage or charging system DTCs before continuing with this test procedure.
Is the DTC active?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK THE AMMONIA SENSOR MODULE POWER AND GROUND SUPPLY NOTE:
The Ammonia Sensor Module has two harness connectors. One connector is routed to the Ammonia Sensor Probe (in the exhaust). The other connector is routed back to the PCM and the PDC. The harness wiring to the Probe is NOT shown in the MINI Wiring Schematic above. Follow the instructions below using
wiring color only
for identification.
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the Ammonia Sensor Module C1 harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- While wiggle testing the wiring harness, measure the voltage between the (F204) Fused Ignition Switch Output circuit and the (Z915) Ground circuit at the Ammonia Sensor Module C1 harness connector.NOTE:
Check the voltage at key ON, while cranking the engine, and with the engine at idle.
Did the voltage reading stay within one volt of Battery voltage while wiggle testing the harness?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Go To 5
- CHECK THE WIRING HARNESS AND TERMINALS
- Visually inspect the Ammonia Sensor C1 Module harness connector and terminals for the following:
- Damaged harness connector or locking tab
- Broken, bent, pushed out or spread terminals
- Signs or corrosion or water intrusion
- Missing or damaged connector seals
Were any of the above conditions found?
Yes
- Perform the appropriate repairs.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 4
- Visually inspect the Ammonia Sensor C1 Module harness connector and terminals for the following:
- CHECK THE AMMONIA SENSOR MODULE
- Reconnect the Ammonia Sensor Module C1 harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs
- Start the engine and allow it run long enough for the SCR Catalyst outlet temperature to go above 150°C (302°F). This will allow the monitor to run.
- With the scan tool, view active DTCs
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace the Ammonia Sensor Module in accordance with the service information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- An intermittent connection is detected and the unplugging and reconnecting of the Ammonia Sensor Module C1 harness connector corrected the problem. Clean and repair the connection as necessary.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE (Z915) GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (Z915) Ground circuit at the Ammonia Sensor Module C1 harness connector.
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (F204) Fused Ignition Switch Output circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Repair the (Z915) Ground circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
