Diagnostic Test
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 RAM 2500 HD. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- ACTIVE DTC NOTE:
If DTCs P0562, P0563, P2503, or P2504 are present, perform the diagnostics for those DTCs before continuing with this one.
- Ignition on, engine not running.
- Using the scan tool, read DTCs.
Is this DTC active?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION - DIESEL diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK SCR RELAY 2
- Turn the ignition on.
- Using the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off for 75 seconds.
- Replace the SCR Relay 2 (in the Power Distribution Center) with a known good relay.
- Start the engine and test drive the vehicle under all normal driving conditions until the engine reaches normal operating temperature.
- Using the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did this DTC return as active or pending?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Replace the SCR Relay 2.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK SYSTEM VOLTAGE
- Check the Batteries and charging system for proper system voltage and operation.
Is the system voltage normal?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Diagnose and repair the Batteries and charging system before continuing.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- Check the Batteries and charging system for proper system voltage and operation.
- CHECK THE PM SENSOR POWER AND GROUND CIRCUITS
- CHECK THE PM SENSOR
- Turn the ignition off.
- Reconnect the PM Sensor harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Using the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off for 75 seconds.
- Start & idle engine until Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) Sensor 1/5 temperature goes above 200°C (392°F).NOTE:
The amount of idle time will depend on the exhaust temperatures in the aftreatment system. The "Engine Warm Up" routine located in the PCM Misc Functions can be used to quickly raise the exhaust temperatures.
- Turn the ignition on, engine off.
- Using the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did this DTC return as active or pending?
Yes
- Replace the Particulate Matter (PM) Sensor in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 6
- CHECK FOR VOLTAGE AT THE (F205) SCR RELAY 2 CIRCUIT
- Turn the ignition on.
- Measure the voltage between ground and the (F205) SCR Relay 2 circuit at the PM Sensor harness connector.
Doese the voltage read within 1.0 volt of Battery voltage?
Yes
- Repair the (Z915) Ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 7
- CHECK FOR THE (F205) SCR RELAY 2 CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND
- Turn the ignition off.
- Measure for continuity between ground and the (F205) SCR Relay 2 circuit at the PM Sensor harness connector.
Is there continuity to ground?
Yes
- Repair the (F205) SCR Relay 2 circuit for short to ground.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
