Diagnostic Test
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 RAM 2500 HD. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- WATER IN WIF SENSOR 2
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the WIF Sensor 2 harness connector.
- Ignition on, engine not running.NOTE:
Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary.
- Measure the voltage between the (K303) WIF Sensor 2 circuit and the (K900) Sensor ground circuit at the WIF Sensor 2 harness connector.
Is the voltage between 4.5 and 5.5 Volts?
Yes
- Replace the Water in Fuel Sensor 2 in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 2
- CHECK FOR THE (K303) WIF SENSOR 2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO (K900) SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the PCM C2 harness connector.NOTE:
The GPEC Diagnostic adapter tool can now be used on Cummins applications by utilizing harness adapter 10436-4.
CAUTION:Do not probe the PCM harness connectors. Probing the PCM harness connectors will damage the PCM terminals resulting in poor terminal to pin connection. Install the GPEC Diagnostic Adaptor to perform the diagnosis.
- Connect the (special tool #10436-4, Adapter, GPEC Diagnostic Harness).NOTE:
Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary.
- Measure for continuity between the (K303) WIF Sensor 2 Signal circuit and the (K900) Sensor Ground circuit of the WIF Sensor harness connector.
Is there continuity between the two circuits?
Yes
- Repair the short between the (K303) WIF Sensor 2 Signal circuit and the (K900) Sensor Ground circuit.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 3
- CHECK THE (K303) WIF SENSOR 2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure for continuity between ground and the (K303) WIF Sensor 2 Signal circuit at the WIF Sensor 2 harness connector.
Is there continuity to ground?
Yes
- Repair the (K303) WIF Sensor 2 Signal for a short to ground.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 4
- Measure for continuity between ground and the (K303) WIF Sensor 2 Signal circuit at the WIF Sensor 2 harness connector.
- POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE
- Disconnect all PCM harness connectors.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
- Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped).
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
- Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.
Repair any conditions that are found.
- Reconnect all PCM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Freeze Frame and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read PCM DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL (PCM), REMOVAL .
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Test complete.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
