- INSPECT THE GENERATOR TERMINALS FOR DIRTY OR LOOSE CONNECTIONS NOTE:
In a dual Generator system, this terminal inspection will have to be performed on both Generators.
NOTE:In a dual Generator system, there is no 'Primary' or 'Secondary' Generator. Follow the wiring schematics and removal images to determine which Generator is being inspected.
NOTE:In a dual Generator system, there is a right side Generator (GEN-1) and a left side Generator (GEN-2). This simply refers to the location in relation to the Engine (as the driver sits). In a single Generator system, there will only be one Generator located on the right side of the Engine. For location clarification, please refer to images shown in 6.7L DIESEL Refer to GENERATOR, REMOVALand/or 6.7L DIESEL-DUAL. Refer to GENERATOR, REMOVAL .

Also, check the generator ground wire connection at the engine (if equipped). They should all be clean and tight.
- Inspect for bent or loose terminals/connectors, signs of arcing, or other damage to the GEN-2 Generator (if equipped) electrical connections at the generator field, battery output, and ground terminal (if equipped) harness connectors and main B+ post. Also, check the generator ground wire connection at the engine (if equipped). They should all be clean and tight.
Are the connections tight, free of damage, and show no signs of arcing or corrosion?

- Turn the ignition off.NOTE:
In a dual Battery system, the left side Battery is sometimes referred to as the 'Primary' Battery and the right side Battery is sometimes referred to as the 'Auxiliary' Battery. For location clarification, please refer to the image in Refer to BATTERY, DESCRIPTION .
- Using a DMM, measure and document the voltage of the right side Battery.
Is the scan tool Battery voltage value (documented in Test Step 3) equal to the actual right side Battery voltage?
Yes
- Go To 7
No
- Go To 6
- Turn the ignition off.
- CHECK THE (A1) BATTERY B+ CROSSOVER CABLE FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE NOTE:
In a dual Battery system, the left side Battery is sometimes referred to as the 'Primary' Battery and the right side Battery is sometimes referred to as the 'Auxiliary' Battery. For location clarification, please refer to the image in Refer to BATTERY, DESCRIPTION .
- Perform a voltdrop test along the (A1) Battery B+ Crossover Cable. Measure the voltage holding the DMM test probes between the B+ post of the right side Battery and the B+ post of the left side Battery while the engine is running.
