Theory Of Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 RAM 2500 HD. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Vehicle Speed And Brake Pedal Position Are Monitored By The Powertrain Control Module (PCM). This Diagnostic Will Fail If The PCM Detects A Condition That Indicates The Brake Pedal Should Have Been Operated But No Change In Brake Pedal Position Was Detected. The PCM Will Immediately Light The Etc Lamp When This Diagnostic Runs And Fails Twice In One Drive Cycle. The PCM Will Turn Off The Etc Lamp Once The Diagnostic Passes In One Drive Cycle.
