Diagnostic Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 RAM 3500 HD and 2016 RAM 2500 HD. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. ACTIVE DTC 
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, record all Freeze frame data.
    3. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    4. Turn the ignition off for 75 seconds.
    5. Start the engine.
    6. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

  2. CHECK THE (K671) EGR BYPASS VALVE (EBV) POSITION CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the EBV harness connector.
    3. Disconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
    4. Measure the voltage on the (K671) EBV Position circuit at the EBV harness connector.

      Is there voltage present?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  3
  3. CHECK THE (K671) EBV POSITION CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE 
    1. Measure the resistance of the (K671) EBV Position circuit between the PCM harness connector and the EBV harness connector.

      Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Go To  4

      No 

  4. EGR COOLER BYPASS VALVE 
    1. Replace the EGR Cooler Bypass Valve in accordance with the Service Information. 
    2. Reconnect the EBV harness connector.
    3. Reconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
    4. Turn the ignition on.
    5. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    6. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      No
