Diagnostic Test

- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- With the scan tool, read TCM DTCs and record on the repair order.
- Record the Event Data and Environmental Data.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Event and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- Read TCM DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Go To 7
- CHECK THE (T54) TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the Transmission Assembly C1 harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Measure the voltage between ground and the (T54) Transmission Temperature Sensor Signal circuit at the Transmission Assembly C1 harness connector.
Is the voltage 5 volts?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Repair the (T54) Transmission Temperature Sensor Signal circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to AS69RC TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE (T54) TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the TCM C2 harness connector.
- Check for continuity between ground and the (T54) Transmission Temperature Sensor Signal circuit at the TCM C2 harness connector.
Is there continuity between ground and the (T54) Transmission Temperature Sensor Signal circuit?
Yes
- Repair the (T54) Transmission Temperature Sensor Signal circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to AS69RC TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 4
- CHECK THE (T54) TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO ANOTHER CIRCUIT
- Check for continuity between the (T54) Transmission Temperature Sensor Signal circuit and all other circuits at the TCM C2 harness connector.
Is there continuity between the (T54) Transmission Temperature Sensor Signal circuit and any other circuit?
Yes
- Repair the (T54) Transmission Temperature Sensor Signal circuit for a short to the (T23) Sensor Ground circuit.
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to AS69RC TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 5
- Check for continuity between the (T54) Transmission Temperature Sensor Signal circuit and all other circuits at the TCM C2 harness connector.
- CHECK THE TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE SENSOR
- Turn the ignition off.
- Reconnect the Transmission Assembly C1 harness connector.
- Measure the resistance of the Transmission Temperature Sensor between the (T54) Transmission Temperature Signal circuit and the (T23) Sensor Ground circuit in the TCM C2 harness connector.
TYPICAL VALUES FOR TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE SENSOR TEMPERATURE APPROXIMATE OHM -30° C (-22° F) 44000 Ohms ± 6600 10° C (50° F) 6453.0 Ohms ± 645 110° C (230° F) 247 Ohms ± 16 145° C (293° F) 111 Ohms ± 6 - Using the table above, compare the Temperature Sensor temperature to the correlating resistance value.
Is the resistance within the specified range when the sensor is at the given temperature?
Yes
- Go To 6
No
- Remove the Transmission Oil Pan and inspect the internal Transmission harness, pins, terminals, and connectors for corrosion, damage, or pushed out terminals. If no problems are found, replace the Transmission Sump Temperature Sensor in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to AS69RC TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS
- Disconnect all TCM harness connectors.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
- Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped).
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
- Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.
Repair any conditions that are found.
- Reconnect all TCM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Event and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read TCM DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace the Transmission Control Module (TCM) in accordance with the Service information. Refer to MODULE, TRANSMISSION CONTROL, REMOVAL .
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to AS69RC TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to AS69RC TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
- Test complete.
- CHECK WIRING AND CONNECTORS
- The conditions necessary to set the DTC are not present at this time.
- Using the schematics as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors specific to this circuit.
- Wiggle the wires while checking for shorted and open circuits.
- Check for any Service Bulletins that may apply.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to AS69RC TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Test complete.
