Shock Absorber, Suspension: Installation: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 RAM 3500 HD and 2016 RAM 2500 HD. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:

This installation procedure lists the left side shock absorber, followed by the right side shock absorber.

LEFT SIDE SHOCK ABSORBER 

  1. Position the shock absorber in the vehicle.
  2. Install the lower shock absorber bolt. Tighten the shock absorber nut to the proper specification. Refer to FRONT, LINK AND COIL, SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. Install the lower ABS module support bracket.
  4. Install the inner wheel house splash shield. Refer to SHIELD, SPLASH, FRONT WHEELHOUSE, INSTALLATION .
  5. Install the wheel and tire assembly.
  6. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.

  7. Install the upper shock absorber bracket and the three nuts (1).

  8. Install the bushing (3), washer (2) and the upper shock absorber nut (1).

  9. Install the battery tray (1).
  10. Install the air intake to throttle body duct.
  11. Attach the wiring harness to the battery tray.

  12. Install the distribution box main fuse panel (1).
    • Connect the distribution box electrical connectors
    • Install the battery cable.
  13. Connect the hood support rod.
  14. Install the rear ABS module rubber mount and bolt.
  15. Install the two rubber mounts and the side ABS module bolts.

  16. Install the rear fuse panel bracket, then install the rear fuse panel (1).

  17. Install the battery (1).
    • Install the battery cover.
    • Connect the positive and negative battery terminals.
    • Install the battery hold down.

RIGHT SIDE SHOCK ABSORBER 

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Position the shock absorber in the vehicle.
  3. Install the lower shock absorber bolt at the axle bracket.
  4. Lower the vehicle.

  5. Install the three upper shock absorber bracket nuts (1)
  6. Install the bracket to the shock absorber, then install the bushing, washer and shock absorber bracket nut.

  7. Install the inner wheel house splash shield.
  8. Install the three coolant reservoir nuts and position the coolant reservoir aside. Do not disconnect the coolant hoses.

  9. Install the battery tray (1).
    • Install the four top bolts.
    • Install the two lower bolts.
    • Attach the wiring harness.
    • Install the two battery solenoid bolts and position the battery solenoid aside.

  10. Install the hood support, then Install the hood strut (1) to the inner fender.

  11. Install the air cleaner assembly (1).
  12. Install the battery.
  13. Install the tire and wheel.

  1. Insert the shock absorber (6) through the shock bracket hole. Install the grommet, retainer and nut (3, 2, 1) on the upper stud and tighten to 36 N.m (27 ft. lbs.).
  2. Install the lower part of the shock (6) into the bracket.
  3. Install the lower bolt and nut (4, 5). Tighten nuts to 120 N.m (89 ft. lbs.).
  4. Install the front inner wheel house splash shield. Refer to SHIELD, SPLASH, FRONT WHEELHOUSE, INSTALLATION .
  5. Install the wheel and tire assembly.
  6. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
