Manifold, Exhaust: Removal: Left

  1. Remove the engine cover.
  2. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  4. Remove the left front wheel and tire.
  5. Remove the left front inner wheel house splash shield. Refer to SHIELD, SPLASH, FRONT WHEELHOUSE, REMOVAL .
  6. Saturate the front exhaust pipe/catalytic converter retaining bolts and nuts with Mopar® Rust Penetrant or equivalent and allow 5 minutes for penetration.

  7. Remove the left exhaust pipe/catalytic converter assembly to exhaust manifold retaining bolts (1).

  8. Loosen the left engine mount through bolt (1).

  9. Loosen the right engine mount through bolt (1).
  10. Using a suitable jack stand, raise the engine.
    CAUTION:

    Do not damage engine harness while raising the engine.

  11. Remove the oil level indicator tube fasteners (1), and remove the tube.

  12. Disconnect the knock sensor wire harness connector.
  13. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield retaining nuts (1), and remove the shield.

  14. Saturate the EGR intake tube nuts (1) with Mopar® Rust Penetrant or equivalent and allow 5 minutes for penetration.
  15. Remove the EGR intake tube nuts at the left side exhaust manifold.

  16. Using the sequence shown in illustration, remove the exhaust manifold retaining bolts/nuts.
    NOTE:

    The stud-bolts and washers used to secure the exhaust manifold are at locations 6, 9, 8 and 10. NEW studs, nuts, bolts and washers must be installed.

  17. Remove the exhaust manifold and gasket.
  18. Inspect the exhaust manifold for any damage. Refer to INSPECTION .
  19. Clean the mating surfaces.
