Diagnostic Test
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 RAM 1500. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- Test drive or operate the vehicle in accordance with the when monitored and set conditions.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs and record on the repair order.
Is the DTC active or pending?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK THE BATTERY CONDITION
- Turn he ignition off.
- Using the approved Battery tester, check the Battery state of charge.
Did the Battery pass the load test?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Replace the Battery and retest.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE (T760) IN-RUSH CURRENT RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT VOLTAGE
- CHECK THE (T760) IN-RUSH RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO ANOTHER VOLTAGE SUPPLY
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the PDC C3 harness connector.
- Check for continuity between the (T760) In-Rush Relay Control circuit and all other circuits at the PDC C3 harness connector.
Is there continuity between the (T760) In-Rush Relay Control circuit and any other circuit?
Yes
- Repair the short between the (T760) In-Rush Relay Control circuit and the circuit that showed continuity.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Replace the PDC in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE IN-RUSH CURRENT RELAY
- Turn the ignition off.
- Remove the (A11) Fused Battery Cable from the In-Rush Current Relay.
- Remove the (A8) Battery Starter Feed Cable from the In-Rush Current Relay.NOTE:
These are live Battery Feeds. Be careful to insulate and/or isolate the cable so that it cannot make contact with any engine ground.
- Measure the resistance across the terminals of the In-Rush Current Relay.NOTE:
The relay is normally closed when not energized and therefore not passing through the resistor inside the relay.
Is the resistance below 2.0 Ohms?
Yes
- The In-Rush Current Relay is not stuck closed at this time. This may be an intermittent condition. Try energizing and de-energizing the relay several times while testing continuity across the relay to check for an intermittent stuck condition.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Replace the In-Rush Current Relay in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
