Diagnostic Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2015 RAM 3500 HD and 2015 RAM 2500 HD. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC 
    NOTE:

    Be sure the thumb wheels on the Dimmer Module are turned fully on during this test.

    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, create a Vehicle Scan Report and attach it to the repair order.
    3. Turn the ignition on to off three times and leave in the Lock position.
    4. Turn the park lamps on.
    5. Turn the ignition on and wait one minute.
    6. With the scan tool, read the active DTCs.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

      • The condition or conditions that originally set this DTC are not present at this time. Using the wiring diagrams as a guide, check all related splices and connectors for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals, and correct pin tension and repair as necessary. If no problems are found, test complete.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. CHECK THE (M33) DRIVER DOOR AMBIENT LAMP DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Remove the inner door panel trim in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to PANEL, DOOR TRIM, REMOVAL .
    3. Leave the Driver Door Map Pocket and Handle Lamp connectors connected.
    4. Disconnect the Driver Door Module C5 harness connector.
    5. Turn the ignition on.
    6. Turn the Park Lamps on.
    7. Measure the voltage between ground and the (M33) Driver Door Ambient Lamp Driver circuit in the Driver Door Module C5 harness connector.

      Is there any voltage present?

      Yes 

      • Repair the (M33) Driver Door Ambient Lamp Driver circuit for a short to voltage.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .

      No 

      • Go To  3
  3. CHECK THE (M33) DRIVER DOOR AMBIENT LAMP DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Be sure the Driver Door Map Pocket and Handle Lamps connectors are still connected.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. Connect a fused jumper wire, connected to battery to the (M33) Driver Door Ambient Lamp Driver circuit in the DDM C5 harness connector.
    5. Connect a jumper wire, connected to ground to the (M34) Driver Door Lighting Return circuit in the DDM C5 harness connector

      Do the Driver Door Map Pocket and Handle Lamps illuminate brightly?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  4
  4. CHECK THE (M33) DRIVER DOOR AMBIENT LAMP DRIVER CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    1. Disconnect the Driver Door Map Pocket and Handle Lamp harness connectors.
    2. Measure the resistance of the (M33) Driver Door Ambient Lamp Driver circuit between the DDM C5 harness connector and the Driver Door Map Pocket Lamp harness connector.
    3. Measure the resistance of the (M33) Driver Door Ambient Lamp Driver circuit between the DDM C5 harness connector and the Driver Door Handle Lamp harness connector.

      Is the resistance below 2.0 Ohms on both the (M33) Driver Door Ambient Lamp Driver circuits to the Map Pocket and Handle Lamps?

      Yes 

      • Go To  5

      No 

      • Repair the (M33) Driver Door Courtesy Lamp Driver circuit for an open.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  5. CHECK THE (M34) DRIVER DOOR LIGHTING RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    1. Measure the resistance of the (M34) Driver Door Lighting Return circuit between the DDM C5 harness connector and the Driver Door Map Pocket Lamp harness connectors.
    2. Measure the resistance of the (M34) Driver Door Lighting Return circuit between the DDM C5 harness connector and the Driver Door Handle Lamp harness connectors.

      Is the resistance below 2.0 Ohms on both the (M34) Driver Door Lighting Return circuit to the Map Pocket and Handle Lamps?

      Yes 

      • Replace the Driver Door Ambient Lamp(s) as necessary.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .

      No 

      • Repair the (M34) Driver Door Lighting Return circuit for an open.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
