Cooler, EGR: Removal: 6.4L

- Disconnect negative battery cable.
- Remove the engine cover.
- Drain cooling system below level of EGR cooler. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Disconnect the temperature (2) sensor.
- Disconnect the breather hose (3).
- Loosen the clamp (1) and remove the air intake tube (2).NOTE:
If service to the EGR intake or exhaust tubes are required. The intake manifold must be removed.
- Remove the intake manifold. Refer to MANIFOLD, INTAKE, REMOVAL, 6.4L GAS .
- Remove the EGR valve (2). Refer to VALVE, EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION (EGR), REMOVAL .
- Remove the outlet tube (1) bolts (2) at the cooler.
- Remove the coolant hose retainer (6) from the EGR cooler (2).
- Remove the coolant supply hose at the cooler (7).
- Remove the return line at the cooler (3).
- Remove the bolts (1) that secure the cooler to the engine block.
CAUTION:
The special bolts used for attaching the EGR tube to the EGR cooler must be removed slowly using hand tools only. This requirement is to prevent the bolts from damaging the threads of the of the EGR cooler.
- Remove the EGR heat shield (2).
- If the intake tube is equipped with bolts, remove the bolts that secure the inlet tube to the EGR cooler and discard.
- Raise the vehicle.
NOTE:
The inlet tube at the exhaust manifold may utilize a dual style gasket (3). A single style gasket must be installed when replacing.
- If required, remove the nuts (2) that secure the exhaust tube to the exhaust manifold and discard.
- At the EGR cooler. Remove the lower fastener (2) that secures the EGR intake tube (1) to the cooler.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the EGR cooler from the vehicle.
