Diagnostic Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2015 RAM 1500. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. CHECK FOR OTHER DTCS
    NOTE:

This DTC is strictly an electrical fault and cannot be caused by any internal transmission failure other than an open in the Transmission Solenoid/TRS Assembly. If the Transmission Solenoid/TRS Assembly is in need of replacement, do not replace the Valve Body.

    1. With the scan tool, read TCM DTCs and record on the repair order.

Are any TCM Power Control Circuit or TCM Power Input DTCs set?

      Yes

      No

      • Go To  2
  2. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE CONDITION
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, erase TCM DTCs.
    3. Turn the ignition off.
    4. Remove the Starter Relay.
      CAUTION:

Removal of the Starter Relay will prevent the vehicle from being started in gear.

      WARNING:

The Starter Relay must be removed. Failure to do so can result in possible serious or fatal injury.

    5. Install the Transmission Simulator (special tool #8333B, Simulator, Transmission).
    6. Turn the ignition on.
    7. With the scan tool, actuate the UD Solenoid.
    8. Monitor the UD Solenoid LED on the Transmission Simulator.

Did the UD Solenoid LED on the Transmission Simulator blink on and off?

      Yes

      • Go To  3

      No

      • Go To  5
  3. CHECK THE TRANSMISSION SOLENOID/TRS ASSEMBLY
    1. With the Transmission simulator, continue to actuate the UD solenoid for two minutes.
    2. Stop the actuation and with the scan tool, check for TCM DTCs.

Did DTC P0765 return during the actuation test?

      Yes

      • Go To  5

      No

      • Go To  4
  4. CHECK THE TRANSMISSION SOLENOID/TRS ASSEMBLY
    1. With the Transmission Simulator, actuate the UD solenoid for another two minutes while wiggling the related wiring harness and connectors.
    2. Stop the actuation and with the scan tool, check for TCM DTCs.

Did DTC P0765 return during the actuation test?

      Yes

      No

      • Replace the Transmission Solenoid/TRS Assembly in accordance with the Service Information.
        NOTE:

Do NOT replace the entire Valve Body.

      • Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 65RFE TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
  5. CHECK THE (T59) UD CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO ANOTHER CIRCUIT
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Transmission Simulator (special tool #8333B, Simulator, Transmission).
    3. Disconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
    4. Check for continuity between the (T59) UD Control circuit and all other circuits at the PCM C1 harness connector.

Is there continuity between the (T59) UD Control circuit and any other circuit?

      Yes

      No

      • Go To  6
  6. CHECK THE (T59) UD CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Measure the resistance of the (T59) UD Control circuit between the Transmission Solenoid/TRS Assembly harness connector and the PCM C1 harness connector.

Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?

      Yes

      • Go To  7

      No

  7. CHECK THE (T59) UD CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    1. Check for continuity between ground and the (T59) UD Control circuit at the PCM C1 harness connector.

Is there continuity between ground and the (T59) UD Control circuit?

      Yes

      No

      • Go To  8
  8. CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS
    1. Disconnect all PCM harness connectors.
    2. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
    3. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
    4. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Other signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
      • Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.

Repair any conditions that are found.

    5. Reconnect all PCM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    6. Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    7. Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    8. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    9. Using the recorded Event and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    10. With the scan tool, read PCM DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes

      No
