- CHECK TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE SENSOR CIRCUITS WITH SIMULATOR
- Turn the ignition off.
- Remove the Starter Relay.CAUTION:
Removal of the Starter Relay will prevent the vehicle from being started in gear.
WARNING:The Starter Relay must be removed. Failure to do so can result in possible serious or fatal injury.
- Install the Transmission Simulator (special tool #8333B, Simulator, Transmission).
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the Transmission Simulator, turn the Input/Output switch to OFF.
- With the scan tool, read the TRANS TEMP VOLTS while turning the Thermistor Voltage switch to all three positions on the Transmission Simulator.
- Compare the scan tool readings to the voltage readings listed on the Transmission Simulator.
Do the readings on the scan tool match the Transmission Simulator readings ± 0.2 volts?
Yes
- Replace Transmission Solenoid/TRS Assembly in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 65RFE TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
No

- CHECK TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE SENSOR CIRCUITS FOR HIGH RESISTANCE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Remove the Transmission Simulator.
- Disconnect the TCM C1 harness connector.
- Connect a jumper wire between the (K900) Sensor Ground circuit and the (T54) Transmission Temperature Signal circuit at the Transmission Solenoid/TRS Assembly harness connector.
- Measure the resistance between the (K900) Sensor Ground circuit and the (T54) Transmission Temperature Signal circuit at the TCM C1 harness connector.
Is the resistance below 3.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 5
No
- Repair the high resistance in the Transmission Fluid Temperature sensor circuits.
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to 65RFE TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS
- Disconnect all PCM harness connectors.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
- Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped).
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
- Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.
Repair any conditions that are found.
- Reconnect all PCM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Event and Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read PCM DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in accordance with the Service information. Refer to MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL, REMOVAL .
