Diagnostic Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2015 RAM 1500. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. DTC IS ACTIVE
    NOTE:

If there are any Sensor Reference DTCs present, perform those diagnostic procedures before continuing with this test.

    1. Ignition on, engine not running.
    2. With the scan tool, select View DTCs.

Is the status Active for this DTC?

      Yes

      • Go To  2

      No

      • Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT DTC .
  2. CHECK THE (K181) FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor harness connector.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. Measure the voltage of the (K181) Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Signal circuit in the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor harness connector.

Does the voltage measure above 5.2 volts?

      Yes

      • Repair the (K181) Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Signal circuit for a short to voltage.
      • Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .

      No

      • Go To  3
  3. CHECK THE (K181) FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
Fig 2: Checking Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Signal Circuit For An Open Or High Resistance

    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the PCM C2 harness connector.
    3. Measure the resistance of the (K181) Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Signal circuit between the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor harness connector and the PCM C2 harness connector.

Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?

      Yes

      • Go To  4

      No

      • Repair the (K181) Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Signal circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
  4. CHECK THE (K359) FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
Fig 3: Checking Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Ground Circuit For An Open Or High Resistance

    1. Measure the resistance of the (K359) Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Ground circuit between the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor harness connector and the PCM C2 harness connector.

Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?

      Yes

      • Go To  5

      No

      • Repair the (K359) Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Ground circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
  5. CHECK THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR
    1. Reconnect the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor harness connector.
    2. Reconnect the PCM C2 harness connector.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    5. Turn the ignition off.
    6. Disconnect the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor harness connector.
    7. Connect a jumper between the (K359) Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Ground circuit and the (K181) Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Signal circuit at the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor harness connector.
    8. Turn the ignition on.
    9. With the scan tool, select View DTCs.
      NOTE:

The scan tool should display a P0192-Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Low DTC as active or pending with the jumper in place.

Does the scan tool display the DTC as described above?

      Yes

      • Replace the Fuel Rail Assembly in accordance with the service information. Refer to RAIL, FUEL, REMOVAL .
        NOTE:

The Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor is not serviceable separate from the Fuel Rail Assembly.

      • Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .

      No

      • Go To  6
  6. POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE
    1. Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
    2. Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
    3. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals.
    4. Perform any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply.

      Were any problems found?

      Yes

      No
