Section 641 (Rear Axle - 267 Aa (10 1/2) - 2500 Hd & 3500 Hd): Installation: Installation

  1. With the axle secured to a suitable jack, carefully raise the axle into position in the vehicle.

  2. Insert and hand tighten the upper and lower control arm fasteners (4 and 5).
    NOTE:

    Right side shown in illustration, left side similar.

  3. Install coil springs. Refer to SPRING(S), INSTALLATION .

  4. Insert bolt (1) securing track bar (2) to axle housing and hand tighten.

  5. Install rear stabilizer bar to axle housing bolts (2) finger tight.
  6. Remove jack from axle housing.
  7. Connect parking brake cables.
  8. Connect brake hose at axle and tighten to specifications. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS .
  9. Connect rear wheel speed sensor harness connectors.
    CAUTION:

    All alignment marks on the link yoke and propeller shaft yoke must be aligned during assembled.

    CAUTION:

    Failure to follow these instruction may result in a driveline vibration.

  10. Attach the propeller shaft to pinion flange making sure to align marks and tighten to specifications. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS .
  11. Add fluid to differential as necessary.
  12. Lower vehicle so weight vehicle is supported by the suspension.
  13. Torque the upper and lower control arm, rear shocks, track bar and stabilizer bar fasteners that were installed hand tight to specifications. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS .
