Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK IF DTC IS CURRENT 
    NOTE:

    If any Communication Area Network (CAN) Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are set in other controllers or if the Antilock Brake System (ABS) Module has CAN or Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) DTCs set, diagnose those DTCs before continuing with this procedure.

    With the scan tool, read TCM DTCs.

    1. Record the Environmental Data and any DTCs.
    2. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    3. Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    4. With the scan tool, read TCM DTCs.

      Did the DTC reset?

      Yes 

      • Go to  2.

      No 

      • Go to  3.
  2. INTERNAL TRANSMISSION 
    1. Remove the Transmission Oil Pan and inspect for excessive debris such as clutch friction material or metal contamination.

      Is there any indication of an internal transmission failure?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Using the schematics as a guide, check the Transmission Control Module Assembly (TCMA) terminals for corrosion, damage, and pushed out terminals. Pay particular attention to the power and ground circuits. If no problems are found, replace and program the TCMA in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to VALVE BODY, REMOVAL .
      • Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
  3. CHECK WIRING AND CONNECTORS 
    1. The conditions necessary to set the DTC are not present at this time.
    2. Using the schematics as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors specific to this circuit.
    3. Wiggle the wires while checking for shorted and open circuits.
    4. Check for any Service Bulletins that may apply.

      Were there any problems found?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Test complete.
