Diagnostic Test

- ACTIVE DTC NOTE:
Ensure that the correct application PM Sensor is being used before continuing with this Diagnostic tree.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, record all Freeze frame data.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off for 75 seconds.
- Turn the ignition on, run the engine to operating temperature
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC reset?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform to the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT DTC .
- CHECK SYSTEM VOLTAGE
- Check the Batteries and charging system for proper system voltage and operation.
Are the Batteries and charging system operating correctly and producing the proper system voltage?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Diagnose and repair the Batteries and charging system before continuing.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
- Check the Batteries and charging system for proper system voltage and operation.
- SCR RELAY 2
- Turn the ignition off.
- Replace the SCR Relay 2 (in the Power Distribution Center) with a known good relay.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs in the PCM.
- Start and run the engine for 10 seconds.
- With the scan tool, select View DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Replace the SCR Relay 2.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE SUPPLY VOLTAGE TO THE PM SENSOR
- Turn the engine off.
- Disconnect the PM Sensor (vehicle harness) harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on, engine off.
- Measure the voltage across the (F204) Fused Ignition Switch circuit and the (Z909) PM Sensor Ground circuit at the PM Sensor (vehicle harness) harness connector.
Does the voltage read between 10.7-16.0 volts?
Yes
- Go To 8
No
- Go To 5
- CHECK THE GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (Z909) Ground circuit at the PM Sensor harness connector.
Is the resistance above 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (Z909) Ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 6
- CHECK THE (F204) FUSED IGNITION SWITCH CIRCUIT
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the Power Distribution Center (PDC) C3 harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Measure the voltage on the (F204) Fused Ignition Switch circuit at the terminal on the PDC side of the harness connector.
Does the voltage read between 10.7-16.0 volts?
Yes
- Repair the (F204) Fused Ignition Switch circuit between the PM Sensor and the PDC for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 7
- POWER DISTRIBUTION CENTER (PDC)
- Turn the ignition off.
- Remove the Fuel Pump Relay.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (K402) SCR Relay 2 Control circuit at the SCR Relay 2 terminal.
Is the resistance above 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (K402) SCR Relay 2 Control circuit for an open/high resistance.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Replace the Power Distribution Center (PDC) in accordance with the service information.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK FOR DAMAGED WIRES OR DAMAGED TERMINALS
- Turn the ignition off.
- Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the PM Sensor and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
- Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
- Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 9
- PM SENSOR NOTE:
The PM Sensor consists of a Module and a Probe (with a harness in between) which cannot be serviced separately. They are replaced as one unit.
- Replace the PM Sensor in accordance with the service information.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, erase PCM DTCs.
- Start the engine and run it until it reaches operating temperature.
- With the scan tool, read PCM DTCs.
Does the scan tool display this DTC?
Yes
- Replace the Powertrain Control Module in accordance with the service information. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Test complete.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
