Diagnostic Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2014 RAM 1500. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. ACTIVE DTC
    NOTE:

If there are any other aftertreatment DTCs present, perform the Diagnostics for those DTCs before continuing with this one.

    NOTE:

Ensure that the Batteries and charging system are operating correctly and providing the proper system voltage before continuing with this Diagnostic procedure.

    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, record all Freeze frame data.
    3. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    4. Turn the ignition off for 75 seconds.
    5. Turn the ignition on, run the engine to operating temperature
    6. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Did the DTC reset?

      Yes

      • Go To  2

      No

      • Perform to the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT DTC .
  2. CHECK THE (Z909) PM SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE OR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
    1. Turn the engine off.
    2. Disconnect the PM Sensor (vehicle harness) harness connector.
    3. Turn the ignition on, engine off.
    4. Measure the voltage across the (F204) Fused Ignition Switch circuit and the (Z909) PM Sensor Ground circuit at the PM Sensor (vehicle harness) harness connector.

Does the voltage read within 1.0 Volt of battery voltage?

      Yes

      • Go To  3

      No

      • Repair the (Z909) Ground circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
  3. CHECK FOR DAMAGED WIRES OR DAMAGED TERMINALS
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the PM Sensor and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
    3. Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
    4. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals.

      Were any problems found?

      Yes

      No

      • Go To  4
  4. PM SENSOR
    NOTE:

The PM Sensor consists of a Module and a Probe (with a harness in between) which cannot be serviced separately. They are replaced as one unit.

    1. Replace the PM Sensor in accordance with the service information.
    2. Turn the ignition on.
    3. With the scan tool, erase PCM DTCs.
    4. Start the engine and run it until it reaches operating temperature.
    5. Test drive the vehicle under normal operating conditions.
      NOTE:

During cold ambient temperatures, it may be necessary to test drive the vehicle for an extended period to properly cycle the fail conditions for this DTC.

    6. With the scan tool, read PCM DTCs.

Does the scan tool display this DTC?

      Yes

      • Replace the Powertrain Control Module in accordance with the service information. Refer to REMOVAL .
      • Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .

      No
