Diagnostic Test
- DTC IS ACTIVE NOTE:
If there are any NOx or DEF Heater related DTCs present, perform the Diagnostics for those DTCs before continuing with this one.
- Ignition on, engine not running.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
- Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature.
- With the scan tool, select View DTCs.
Is the status Active for this DTC?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT DTC .
- CHECK THE DEF SYSTEM FOR LEAKS
- Turn the ignition off.
- Visually inspect the DEF delivery system for leaks.
Were there any found?
Yes
- Repair as needed.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 3
- CHECK THE DEF QUALITY
- Turn the ignition off.
- Test the qualify of the Diesel Exhaust Fluid. Refer to DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING
.
Were there any problems found with the quality of the Diesel Exhaust Fluid?
Yes
- Drain and refill the DEF tank with the correct application Diesel Exhaust Fluid.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 4
- CHECK THE DEF VOLUME FROM THE INJECTOR
- Turn ignition off.
- Remove the DEF Injector from the decomposition tube.
- Place the DEF Injector in a container to capture the fluid sprayed.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, navigate to the Diesel Exhaust Fluid Injector Quantity Test.NOTE:
This Test is broken up into three parts: 1-Air bleed/Build Pressure (about 30 seconds/then empty the container), 2-Main volume test (a little over one minute), 3-DEF purge (to remove excess fluid from the lines after the test). The entire procedure will run for 2-3 minutes before timing out. The amount of flow may fluctuate through out the test, therefore the test must be allowed to run completely in order for the results to be accurate. The fluid should spray out as a mist. There should be no dripping from the holes in the DEF Injector at any time during the duration of the test procedure.
- Measure the amount of fluid sprayed after the test times out.
Does the fluid sprayed measure between 29 ml and 33 ml?
Yes
- The DEF Injector and DEF Pumps are functioning properly. Replace the SCR Catalyst.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 5
- CHECK THE DEF VOLUME FROM THE DEF SUPPLY PUMP
- Disconnect the DEF Supply line at the DEF Injector.
- Place the open DEF Supply line in a container to capture the fluid.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, navigate to Systems Tests and actuate the Diesel Exhaust Fluid Doser Pump Override Test.NOTE:
This Test will run for six minutes before timing out. The amount of flow may fluctuate through out the test, therefore the test must be allowed to run completely in order for the results to be accurate.
- Measure the amount of fluid in the container.
Does the fluid amount measure between 85 ml and 115 ml?
Yes
- Replace the DEF Injector in accordance with the service information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 6
- CHECK THE DEF SUPPLY LINE FOR RESTRICTION
- Check the DEF Supply line for a restriction.
Was there a restriction in the DEF Supply line?
Yes
- Replace the DEF Supply line in accordance with the service information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Replace the DEF Supply Pump in accordance with the service information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
- Check the DEF Supply line for a restriction.
