Diagnostic Test

- ACTIVE DTC NOTE:
If DTCs P245C or P245D are present, perform the Diagnostics for those DTCs before continuing with this one.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Start the engine and test drive the vehicle.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT DTC .
- CHECK FOR HIGH RESISTANCE IN THE (K670) EGR COOLER BYPASS VALVE ACTUATOR CONTROL CIRCUIT

- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the EGR Cooler Bypass Valve harness connector.
- Disconnect the PCM C2 harness connector.
- Measure the resistance of the (K670) EGR Cooler Bypass Valve Actuator Control circuit between the EGR Cooler Bypass Valve Actuator harness connector and the PCM C2 harness connector.
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Repair the (K670) EGR Cooler Bypass Valve Control circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK (F343) FUSED MAIN RELAY CIRCUIT
- Turn the ignition on.
- With a test light, probe the (F343) Fused Main Relay circuit at the EGR Cooling Bypass Actuator harness connector.
Does the test light illuminate as brightly as it does when connected directly to the Battery?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Repair the (F343) Fused Main Relay circuit or Main Relay for an open/high resistance.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
- EGR COOLER BYPASS VALVE ACTUATOR
- Turn the ignition off.
- Reconnect the EGR Cooler Bypass Valve harness connector.
- Reconnect the PCM C2 harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Backprobe the (K670) EGR Cooler Bypass Valve Actuator Control circuit using a jumper wire connected to ground.
- Observe the travel of the actuator.
- Remove the jumper wire ground.
- Observe the travel of the actuator.
Does the EGR Cooling Bypass Valve Actuator travel completely back and forth?
Yes
- Go To 5
No
- Replace the EGR Cooler Bypass Valve Actuator in accordance with the service information.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
- EGR COOLER
- Inspect the EGR Cooler for blockage.
Was the EGR Cooler free of blockage?
Yes
- Go To 6
No
- Replace the EGR Cooler in accordance with the service information.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
- Inspect the EGR Cooler for blockage.
- POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE
- Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the EGR Cooler Bypass Valve Actuator and the Powertrain Control Module.
- Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
- Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals.
- Perform any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Replace the Powertrain Control Module in accordance with the service information. Refer to MODULE, POWERTRAIN CONTROL, REMOVAL .
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
