Diagnostic Test
- ACTIVE DTC NOTE:
Ensure that the correct application NOx Sensors are being used (and properly connected in their correct locations) before continuing with this Diagnostic tree.
NOTE:If there are any other NOx Sensor DTCs present, perform the Diagnostics for those DTCs before continuing with this one.
NOTE:If there are any other aftertreatment DTCs present, perform the Diagnostics for those DTCs before continuing with this one.
NOTE:Ensure that the Batteries and charging system are operating correctly and providing the proper system voltage before continuing with this Diagnostic procedure.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, record all Freeze frame data.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off for 75 seconds.
- Turn the ignition on, run the engine to operating temperature
- Test drive the vehicle under normal operating conditions.NOTE:
During cold ambient temperatures, it may be necessary to test drive the vehicle for an extended period to properly cycle the fail conditions for this DTC.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC reset?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform to the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT DTC .
- CHECK THE EXHAUST SYSTEM FOR LEAKS
- Visually inspect the entire exhaust system for signs of a leak.
Were any exhaust leaks found?
Yes
- Perform the appropriate repair.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 3
- Visually inspect the entire exhaust system for signs of a leak.
- CHECK THE (F204) FUSED IGNITION SWITCH CIRCUIT AND THE (Z909) NOX SENSOR 1/1 GROUND CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND OR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
- Turn the engine off.
- Disconnect the NOx Sensor 1/1 Sensor (vehicle harness) harness connector.CAUTION:
Do not attempt to disconnect the NOx harness connector between the NOx Sensor Probe and the NOx Sensor Module. This connector is permanently attached to the NOx Sensor Module. Any attempt to remove this connector will permanently damage the NOx Sensor.
- Turn the ignition on, engine off.
- Measure the voltage across the (F204) Fused Ignition Switch circuit and the (Z909) NOx Sensor 1/1 Ground circuit at the NOx Sensor 1/1 (vehicle harness) harness connector.
Does the voltage read within 1.0 Volt of battery voltage?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Repair the (F204) Fused Ignition Switch circuit for an open or short to ground, or check the (Z909) Ground circuit for an open.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK FOR DAMAGED WIRES OR DAMAGED TERMINALS
- Turn the ignition off.CAUTION:
Do not attempt to disconnect the NOx harness connector between the NOx Sensor Probe and the NOx Sensor Module. This connector is permanently attached to the NOx Sensor Module. Any attempt to remove this connector will permanently damage the NOx Sensor.
- Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the NOx Sensor 1/1 and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
- Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
- Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 5
- Turn the ignition off.
- NOX SENSOR 1/1 NOTE:
The NOx Sensor consists of a Module and a Probe (with a harness in between) which cannot be serviced separately. They are replaced as one unit.
CAUTION:Do not attempt to disconnect the NOx harness connector between the NOx Sensor Probe and the NOx Sensor Module. This connector is permanently attached to the NOx Sensor Module. Any attempt to remove this connector will permanently damage the NOx Sensor.
- Replace the NOx Sensor 1/1 in accordance with the service information.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, erase PCM DTCs.
- Start the engine and run it until it reaches operating temperature.
- Test drive the vehicle under normal operating conditions.NOTE:
During cold ambient temperatures, it may be necessary to test drive the vehicle for an extended period to properly cycle the fail conditions for this DTC.
- With the scan tool, read PCM DTCs.
Does the scan tool display this DTC?
Yes
- Replace the Powertrain Control Module in accordance with the service information. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Test complete.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
