Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR ACTIVE DTC 
    1. Ignition on, engine not running.
    2. With the scan tool, erase DTCs in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
    3. Start the engine and allow to reach operating temperature.
    4. Test drive the vehicle during normal operating conditions.
    5. With the scan tool, read the PCM DTCs.

      Did this DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

      • Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT DTC .
  2. CHECK THE (K414) DEF LEVEL/TEMPERATURE SIGNAL FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the DEF Pump-Level/Temperature Sensor Assembly harness connector.
    3. Disconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
    4. Measure the resistance between ground and the (K414) Def Level/Temperature Signal circuit at the DEF Pump-Level/Temperature Sensor Assembly harness connector.

      Is the resistance above 10k Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Go To  3

      No 

      • Repair the (K414) Def Level/Temperature Signal circuit for a short to ground.
      • Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
  3. DEF PUMP-LEVEL/TEMPERATURE SENSOR ASSEMBLY 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Replace the DEF Pump-Level/Temperature Sensor Assembly in accordance with the service information.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. With the scan tool, erase PCM DTCs.
    5. Start the engine and allow to reach operating temperature.
    6. Test drive the vehicle during normal operating conditions.
    7. With the scan tool, read PCM DTCs.

      Does the scan tool display this DTC?

      Yes 

      • Replace the Powertrain Control Module in accordance with the service information. Refer to REMOVAL .
      • Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .

      No
