Diagnostic Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2014 RAM 1500. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. DTC IS ACTIVE 
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. With the scan tool, erase DTCs in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
    3. Start the engine and allow it to idle.
    4. Monitor the scan tool for at least two minutes.
    5. With the scan tool, select View DTCs.

      Is the status Active for this DTC?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

      • Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT DTC .
  2. CHECK THE (F343) FUSED ASD RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE

    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Crankcase Vent Heater harness connector.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, probe the (F343) Fused ASD Relay Output circuit at the Crankcase Vent Heater harness connector.
      NOTE:

      The test light should be illuminated and bright. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery.

      Is the test light illuminated and bright?

      Yes 

      • Go To  3

      No 

      • Repair the (F343) Fused ASD Relay Output circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
  3. CHECK THE (N116) CRANKCASE VENT HEATER CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE

    1. Disconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
    2. Measure the resistance of the (N116) Crankcase Vent Heater Control circuit between the Crankcase Vent Heater harness connector and the PCM c1 harness connector.

      Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • Go To  4

      No 

      • Repair the (N116) Crankcase Vent Heater Control circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
  4. CRANKCASE VENT HEATER 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Reconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
    3. Connect a jumper between the (N116) Crankcase Vent Heater Control circuit and the (F343) Fused ASD Relay Output circuit at the Crankcase Vent Heater harness connector.
    4. Turn the ignition on.
    5. Start the engine and allow it to idle.
    6. Monitor the scan tool for at least two minutes.
    7. With the scan tool, select View DTCs.
      NOTE:

      The P053C-Crankcase Vent Heater Control Circuit High DTC should be active or pending with the jumper in place.

      Did the DTC display as described above?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Go To  5
  5. POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) 
    1. Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Crankcase Vent Heater and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
    2. Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
    3. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals.
    4. Perform any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply.

      Were any problems found?

      Yes 

      No
