Diagnostic Test

- DTC IS ACTIVE NOTE:
If any Sensor Reference DTCs are present, perform the applicable diagnostic procedure before continuing with this test.
- Ignition on, engine not running.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs in the PCM.
- Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature.
- With the scan tool, select View DTCs.
Is the status Active for this DTC?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT DTC .
- CHECK THE (K142) MAF/INTAKE AIR SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the MAF/Intake Air Sensor harness connector.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Measure the voltage of the (K142) MAF/Intake Air Sensor Signal circuit at the MAF/Intake Air Sensor harness connector.
Does the voltage measure above 5.2 volts?
Yes
- Repair the (K142) MAF/Intake Air Sensor Signal circuit for a short to voltage.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 3
- CHECK THE (K142) MAF/INTAKE AIR SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
- Measure the resistance of the (K142) MAF/Intake Air Sensor Signal circuit between the MAF/Intake Air Sensor connector and the PCM C1 harness connector.
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Repair the (K142) MAF/Intake Air Sensor Signal circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE (K757) MAF/INTAKE AIR SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
- Measure the resistance of the (K757) MAF/Intake Air Sensor Ground circuit between the MAF/Intake Air Sensor connector and the PCM C1 harness connector.
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 5
No
- Repair the (K757) MAF/Intake Air Sensor Ground circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
- MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR
- Reconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
- Replace the Mass Air Flow Sensor in accordance with the service information.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature.
- With the scan tool, select View DTCs.
Is the status Active for this DTC?
Yes
- Go To 6
No
- Test Complete.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
- POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE
- Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the MAF/Intake Air Sensor and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
- Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
- Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals.
- Perform any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Replace the Powertrain Control Module in accordance with the service information. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
