Diagnostic Test

- ACTIVE DTC NOTE:
If there are any Mass Air Flow, Intake Air, or Fuel Delivery DTCs present, perform the Diagnostics on those DTCs before continuing with this one.
- Ignition on, engine not running.
- Using the scan tool, erase DTCs in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
- Using the scan tool, actuate the Oxygen Sensor Heater.
- Monitor the scan tool for at least two minutes.
- Using the scan tool, select View DTCs.
Is the status Active for this DTC?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT DTC .
- CHECK THE (K79) O2 SENSOR 1/1 HEATER CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the Oxygen Sensor harness connector.
- Disconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (K79) O2 Sensor 1/1 Heater Control circuit in the Oxygen Sensor harness connector.
Is the resistance above 10k Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Repair the (K79) O2 Sensor 1/1 Heater Control circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE (K79) O2 SENSOR 1/1 HEATER CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE

- Measure the resistance of the (K79) O2 Sensor 1/1 Heater Control circuit between the Oxygen Sensor harness connector and the PCM C1 harness connector.
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Repair the (K79) O2 Sensor 1/1 Heater Control circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
- Measure the resistance of the (K79) O2 Sensor 1/1 Heater Control circuit between the Oxygen Sensor harness connector and the PCM C1 harness connector.
- OXYGEN SENSOR
- Turn the ignition off.
- Reconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
- Replace the Oxygen Sensor in accordance with the service information. Refer to SENSOR, OXYGEN, REMOVAL .
- Start the engine.
- Allow the engine to reach normal operating temperature.
- Monitor the scan tool for at least two minutes.
- Using the scan tool, select View DTCs.
Is the status Active for this DTC?
Yes
- Go To 5
No
- Repair complete.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
- POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE
- Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the Oxygen Sensor and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
- Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched or partially broken wires.
- Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals.
- Perform any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Replace the Powertrain Control Module in accordance with the service information. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Perform the PCM VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
