WARNING:
The normal operating temperature of the exhaust system is very high. Therefore, never work around or attempt to service any part of the exhaust system until it has cooled. Special care should be taken when working near the catalytic converter. The temperature of the converter rises to a high level after a short period of engine operation time.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Remove the engine cover (1).
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Remove the transmission. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Remove the serpentine belt (2). Refer to BELT, SERPENTINE, REMOVAL
.NOTE:
Removal of the A/C compressor does not require the refrigerant to be evacuated.
- Remove the rear A/C compressor mounting bolt.
- Remove the A/C compressor nut and stud.
- Remove bolt and the A/C compressor and position aside.
- Remove bolts and the A/C compressor mounting bracket
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the oil cooler adapter. Refer to ADAPTER, OIL COOLER, REMOVAL .
- Remove bolts (1) and the left exhaust manifold heat shield (2).
- Remove bolts (2) and the exhaust manifold pipe to turbocharger heat shield (1).
- Remove the three nuts (1) from exhaust manifold pipe to turbocharger.
- Remove nuts (1) and the left exhausts manifold (2).
- Remove and discard gaskets.
