ADDRESS ACTIVE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) IN THE CORRECT ORDER

As a general rule, for any power top convertible control module that exhibits more than one active DTC, address the codes in the order indicated:

  1. Low/High Voltage and Serial Data Loss of Communication Codes
  2. Module Internal Failure and Configuration Mismatch Codes
  3. Circuit specific DTC failures

Should the malfunction still be present after conducting this Pre-diagnostic Procedure, technicians should continue to the appropriate DTC procedure or symptom diagnostic. Refer to DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING  for Diagnostic Trouble Codes or DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING for symptom based diagnostics.

PRE-TESTING SYSTEM CHECKS

Check each of the following items to be sure they are functioning properly. Any of the following could cause improper power top operation:

  1. Start the engine to make sure there is proper battery voltage. Battery voltage must be above 10.6 volts.
  2. Check fuse numbers 1, 24 and 37 in the TIPM. If necessary, replace the fuse and diagnose the condition that caused the fuse to blow. Refer to the wiring diagrams and the Service Information.
  3. Check the rear cargo compartment divider to make sure it is unfolded and secured in the vertical position. If the divider is in its stowed position first unfold the panels towards the rear of the vehicle. Pull up on the vertical panel using the center cutout, and hook the pins at the top into the slots molded into the cargo compartment trim on each side near the forward edge of the decklid opening. The pins MUST be hooked in these slots in order for the top to operate.
  4. Check to make sure the deck lid is closed and latched.
  5. Using the scan tool, in the PTCM Data Display, check the Power Top Pre-conditions for the proper conditions required for Power Top operation.
