Cylinder Head: Inspection: Inspection

NOTE:

Replacement cylinder heads will come complete with valves, seals, springs, retainers, keepers, tappets, and camshafts.

  1. Check cylinder head warpage with a straight edge (2) and feeler gauge (1).
  2. Cylinder head must be flat within 0.1 mm (0.004 in.).
  3. Verify that the valve tappets move freely in theirs bores and that they have been rotating.
  4. Inspect camshaft bearing journals for scoring.
  5. Remove carbon and varnish deposits from inside of valve guides with a reliable guide cleaner.
  6. Inspect the following components and verify that they are within specification. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS .
    • Camshafts
    • Valve Tappets
    • Springs
    • Valve Seats
    • Valve Guides
    • Valves
  7. Prior to installing cylinder head, the cylinder block should be checked for flatness. Refer to INSPECTION .
