Diagnostic Test

- RADIATOR COOLING FAN MODULE OPERATION NOTE:
Diagnose and repair any other communication DTCs or Run/Start Relay related DTCs before continuing.
- Ignition on, engine not running.
- With a scan tool, actuate the High Speed Radiator Fan Relay.
Is the DTC active?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- CHECK THE RADIATOR FAN RELAY
- Stop actuation of the relay.
- With a scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Replace the High Speed Radiator Fan Relay with a known good relay.
- With a scan tool, actuate the High Speed Radiator Fan Relay.
Is the DTC active?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Repair is complete.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- CHECK THE (N112) RADIATOR FAN RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
- Remove the High Speed Radiator Fan Relay.
- Disconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.CAUTION:
Do not probe the PCM harness connectors. Probing the PCM harness connectors will damage the PCM terminals resulting in poor terminal to pin connection. Install the GPEC Diagnostic Adaptor to perform the diagnosis.
- Connect the (special tool #10436, Adapter, GPEC Diagnostic).
- Measure the resistance of the (N112) Radiator Fan Relay Control circuit between the High Speed Radiator Fan Relay connector (terminal 86) and the GPEC Adaptor.
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Go To 5
No
- Go To 4
- POWER DISTRIBUTION CENTER
- Disconnect the PDC C3 harness connector.
- Measure the resistance of the (N112) Radiator Fan Relay Control circuit between the High Speed Radiator Fan Relay connector (terminal 86) and the PDC C3 harness connector.
Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (N112) Radiator Fan Relay Control circuit for an open or high resistance.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Replace the Power Distribution Center in accordance with the service information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- CHECK THE (N112) RADIATOR FAN RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- POWER DISTRIBUTION CENTER
- Disconnect the PDC C3 harness connector.
- Measure the resistance between ground and the (N112) Radiator Fan Relay Control circuit in the GPEC Adaptor.
Is the resistance above 10k Ohms?
Yes
- Replace the Power Distribution Center in accordance with the service information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Repair the (N112) Radiator Fan Relay Control circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)
- Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the wiring and connectors between the PDC and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
- Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched or partially broken wires.
- Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals.
- Perform any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Repair as necessary.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
No
- Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in accordance with the service information. Refer to SENSOR, KNOCK, REMOVAL .
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
