Diagnostic Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2013 RAM 2500 HD and 2012 RAM Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. RADIATOR COOLING FAN MODULE OPERATION
    NOTE:

Diagnose and repair any other communication DTCs or Run/Start Relay related DTCs before continuing.

    1. Ignition on, engine not running.
    2. With a scan tool, actuate the Low Speed Radiator Cooling Fan Relay.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes

      • Go To  2

      No

  2. CHECK THE (N201) LOW SPEED RADIATOR FAN RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN/HIGH RESISTANCE
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the PDC C3 harness connector.
    3. Disconnect the PCM C1 harness connector.
      CAUTION:

Do not probe the PCM harness connectors. Probing the PCM harness connectors will damage the PCM terminals resulting in poor terminal to pin connection. Install the GPEC Diagnostic Adaptor to perform the diagnosis.

    4. Connect the (special tool #10436, Adapter, GPEC Diagnostic).
    5. Measure the resistance of the (N201) Low Speed Radiator Fan Relay Control circuit between the GPEC Adaptor and the PDC C3 harness connector.

Is the resistance below 5.0 Ohms?

      Yes

      • Go To  3

      No

      • Repair the (N201) Radiator Fan Relay Control circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  3. CHECK THE (N201) LOW SPEED RADIATOR FAN RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    1. Measure the resistance between ground and the (N201) Low Speed Radiator Fan Relay Control circuit at the GPEC Adaptor.

Is the resistance above 10k Ohms?

      Yes

      • Go To  4

      No

      • Repair the (N201) Low Speed Radiator Fan Relay Control circuit for a short to ground.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  4. POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)
    1. Reconnect the PDC C3 harness connector.
    2. Reconnect the PCM C1 harness connector With the GPEC Adaptor still connected in line.
    3. Turn the ignition on.
    4. With a scan tool, actuate the Low Speed Radiator Cooling Fan Relay.
    5. Using a 12 volt test light connected to ground, probe the (N201) Low Speed Radiator Fan Relay Control circuit at the GPEC Adaptor.

Is the test light on and bright when the relay is actuated on?

      Yes

      • Replace the Power Distribution Center in accordance with the service information.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .

      No
